The original recipient of this 1939 Iron Cross bar has soldered a metal Iron Cross symbol over the original swastika, as per the photo. As with many German Great War veterans who fought again in the 2nd World War, they were proud to fight again for their country but were not supporters of the Nazis. Hence the adapation of the Nazi symbol on this award to a German symbol. It is a very unusal medal bar variant in it’s current condition, although it should be possible to remove the alteration and restore it to how it was before the recipient changed it, if the buyer wishes to.
