This group of medals, paperwork and photos came direct from the family and are fresh to the market.
Included is a WW2 & post war medals group to William Ernest Jenks of the Durham Light Infantry Regiment (who also served with the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry and the Royal Navy during WW2 and possibly the Royal Air Force!).
WW2 Defence & War Medals – unnamed as issued
British Korean War Medal – 22797126 PTE. W. E. JENKS. D.L.I.
General Service Medal – 22797126 SGT. W. E. JENKS. DLI
United Nations Korea Medal – unnamed as issued
The medals aren’t quite in the correct order, but we will leave it to the winner if they wish to change it or keep it in the same order as William himself wore them.
Also included is Jenks’ Regular Army book which confirms his service with the colours as part of both the DLI & KSLI and where he was stationed in dying years of the British Empire including Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and the Middle-East.
William was born in 1926 and was 18 when he enlisted in the Royal Navy in 1944. There are some documents and photos from his time in the Royal Navy including his certificate of service and his Torpedo School electrical artificers record sheet. There is another document from the RAF dated about 1951 and seems to show him working for the RAF, possibly in a civilian role? Finally, he seems to have joined the Light Infantry Brigade in 1952 and took part in the fighting during the Korean War and Suez Crisis.
There are other documents and some sports award medals too. There are some interesting photos of his time in Korea / Far East, lots of which have writing on the back in pencil identifying them.
Overall, these is a wonderful set of campaign medals to someone who was young enough to take part in WW2 in the Royal Navy, before transferring to the army to fight in the final wars of Empire as the sun was beginning to set on British military power East of Suez.
