This is an original World War Two ARP Warden (Air Raid Precautions) hallmarked silver lapel badge, issued to trained Air Raid Precautions volunteers who served on the British home front during the Second World War. These badges were worn on civilian clothing to signify the wearer’s role in civil defence and protection of communities during air raids.

Air Raid Precautions (ARP) History

The Air Raid Precautions (ARP) organisation was established in the United Kingdom to help protect civilians from the danger of aerial bombardment and to coordinate air raid preparedness prior to and during WWII. ARP wardens played a vital role enforcing blackout measures, directing people to shelters, distributing gas masks, and assisting after raids.

Silver ARP lapel badges were presented to volunteers who successfully completed ARP training. These badges, often hallmarked with date letters for 1936–1939, were a mark of voluntary service during a period of significant civilian defence effort.
